How many fighter jets does the U.S. have? Exact figures of fighters themselves are hard to come by, but the American Military has 13,264 total aircraft.

Knight_Flyer says:

The F-15 had no combat history in 1976. Did that make it a crap fighter plane at that time? You don't need combat experience to make an aircraft a top fighter plane. Even in 1976, the F-15 would have been seen as a top fighter even without any combat. Same goes for a plane such as the F-22.

Let me put it this way. If we went to war in Ukraine and there aint enough serviceable F-15s for the pilots we need to deploy…. and the only planes available were either F-4 or F-22. Do you really think the pilots will pick the F-4 bc it has combat experience over the F-22? This is what I mean by saying you don't need combat to be a top fighter plane.

Pilots can tell if a plane is going to be a top fighter by other means. They have to bc aircraft do not come out of the factory with combat experience already built in.

Lastly, while we have all those military planes at our disposal. We hope they will never see combat. That's bc war is a sh!t deal. Real people die in war and nobody wants to see their loved ones come home from a war zone in a flag draped coffin.

Rob Lockhart says:

Wish they could update or modify the ramps/intake on the F-15 like they did the Super Hornet. And/or it's frame was large enough to house two F135 engines. That would be absolutely insane!

Lovin the F-35, particularly the C model. Its one size fits all platform is aging like fine wine! Contrary to what all the naysayers say about it.

Brad says:

F-18 is underrated. Land on an aircraft carrier, multirole, jammer.

The F15 Strike Eagle…
Is still the Most beautiful jet still….

Wally Khan says:

I’m happy you don’t have that stupid bigging with tat capacino and sipping!
