During SOHO 2019, Houston, US, the AML Global Portal were pleased to interview Dr Jeffrey E. Lancet from Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, US, on whether it is time to abandon standard chemotherapy induction (“7+3”) for regimens containing hypomethylating agents (HMA) and/or venetoclax when treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia. He argues that although the HMA-venetoclax combination is very promising, it can’t yet replace traditional chemotherapy as a standard therapy for all AML patients. Certain groups, including older patients or younger with high-risk AML, still benefit from more intense chemotherapy.
