Getting a Job as a Graphic Designer is tough. Yet it’s never been a better time to become a Graphic Designer. Graphic Design Jobs are hard to find, but here is how you compete…

HOW TO BECOME A GRAPHIC DESIGNER & GET HIRED
The traditional Graphic Design Career and Design Job is becoming a thing of the past and the Graphic Design Job Market is more saturated than ever when it comes to 9 to 5 Employment.

You have so many competing options where employers are concerned. Crowdsourcing, Overseas outsourcing, freelancers, Fiverr… there is a lot stacked against Graphic Designers.

Yet with a growth in entrepreneurship and start up culture, and more awareness around what graphic designers do, there is also more opportunity than ever, that is why it is so saturated.

Instead of working 9 to 5 and then going freelance, the opposite is what is working for most designers now. Social Media and talking about their design work, instead of the work speaking for itself, is giving people opportunity and allowing them to be discovered. Using Spec Work to get access to people and resources is working in people’s favor instead of turning into horror stories left and right.

In short, unconventional methods, will keep you from being lumped with everyone else. Use your creative problem solving skills and create and opportunity where only a problem existed.

I gave up freelancing long ago…About the time when I was outbid by the Asian market for pennies on the dollar (about 8 years ago)…Now it's crowdsourcing and spec work that rule the school, where you generally find out the hard way you just worked for free….Competent graphic designers are now being overshadowed by somebody's kid or stay-at-home wife with an Adobe Creative Cloud account…Everybody's a "professional" now, and posts their "best work" on sites such as Fiverr and 99… Also, with some of the newer "clean-up" (pre-press) apps (and websites) coming out now, buyers of this cheap-assed "slop" can make everything perfect and print ready with just a few clicks…So, why pay more? And they don't – and won't! Graphic Design has had it…

Hi Roberto, just found your channel this evening (irish time!) Thanks I am struggling to get hired as a junior position because I dont have enough "Agency" experience, my previous job was a inhouse designer for a large plannig firm were I set my own agenda to a certain extent. Perhaps you could do a video of canditates competing for postions who have some experience/ no experience, non agency experience etc. sorry does this scenario makes sense? videos are a great help! cheers Shane

Hi I have been in the design field for some time and have my degree as well but started as a airbrush artist. I have found over the years you have to be willing to learn new things and make or design whatever you can. I've been in the art game for over 20 years even before I got a degree and you have to look for the people who have money and find out what you can do as a designer for them then tell them and show them. I not looking to plug myself but it it's why I just started my channel Dynamic Art llc how to make money with your art work. I thought it would be best to show the steps I take each day to make money in designing different things and making different things from start to finish. I'm just getting started and look to you channel as an example but no matter what happens in the design field you will always find a customer that's not looking to find a million people to do one job. Most times you will only need to step up and say hi I can do this for you show give them a card
