A cottage industry has developed online selling alternative treatments that, unlike the high-street shops, is not bound by the Trade Description or Medicines Act. This has led to a lot of vulnerable people being exposed to some truly insidious products that have the potential to cause a lot of pain and suffering. Perhaps one of the more shocking examples of this is the promotion of a paste called Black Salve (also known as Casema) to people suffering from cancer.

Black Salve is an escharotic substance meaning that when applied directly to the skin, it causes the cells to die – creating a thick black dry clump of necrotic tissue called an “eschar”. This often causes scarring and can potentially cause serious injury and disfigurement. The paste itself is made from a mixture of bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) extract and zinc chloride.

CORRECTION!!! I made a mistake and put a picture of Gail Bumpus and not Ruth Conrad in this video. Sorry about that.

Johannes Dimopoulos says:

Nasty stuff. Thanks for the info

Rjoette Squire says:

People using this product without knowing about it, is like anything you use, drugs you take, without instruction. Even for the simplest medication the pharmacist always lets you know how to take a prescription. These people misused the product, and now you have jumped on the bandwagon to malign the product, and create problems for those who use this product successfully. Ignorance snowballing is what this video is, and it is unfortunate that you only look at one side of the coin.
What pharmaceutical did you say you work for?

Wyrd80 says:

What in the name of fuck.

Nate fletcher says:

belnol peroxide the only anche meication is bleach , liqid nitrogen for warts , hmm a scalpel , chemo drugs can all be missused, black salve is effective if used correctly but it is admitadly uneccecry ,having that stuff removed surgically is quicker nad will almost definetly leave you witha more visualy apealing result

A Youtuber with a big following just recommended this

ThanoSH says:

Hey Myles. I really like your work but I felt like I need to point out something. I first came your videos by your 9/11 series. And I loved what you did with homeotherapy, GMO's and the whole AIDS denialism thing. However, I have noticed that lately your videos are directed more towards "easy" targets like the food babe and reviews of really bad books. I would really love to see you getting back on big and important projects, like the ones I mentioned before. Thanks for all the hard work!

richo61 says:

I remember hearing about this stuff years ago – horrendous and I can't believe this is still going on.

comrade harps says:

I listened all the way through. I was eating dinner.

Thomas St. Clair says:

The sponsored links for this video on mobile are all black salve products. Amazing.

Abstrakt Psytrance says:

I can see that you haven't mentioned vitamin E you fool. Propaganda people!!!!

Case says:

The warning about graphic content is kinda moot, given the video thumbnail 😉

Anyway, it's hard to believe what people can actually do to themselves. Even in related videos, I see some examples of people actually using this horrible stuff :(

Barnaby Swift says:

I mean no one should be promoting this stuff but literally typing the words "black salve" in to google, literally the entire first page was articles and stories about how bad this stuff is for your body. There are quack pages too but they're buried under like 8 or more stories with titles like "MAN BURNED 2 INCH SIZE HOLE IN HIMSELF WITH BLACK SALVE". I think if you apply and unknown substance to your body internally or externally with absolutely no knowledge you're gonna find yourself in a lot of trouble in this life.

Kieran O'Sullivan says:

Just to clarify anything bought on a web site is covered by the Trades Description act. The EU has settled that one. You could make a complaint to the relevant body. After you guys leave the EU well that's another issue.

German Neocon says:

The eerie music made this into a real horror story. Scary shit.

Sebasstian86 says:

Hey Myles, a quack working from Germany recently ended up with 3 dead patients (2 Dutch and 1 Belgian) and 2 hospitalized after giving IVs of 3-bromopyruvate. Seems like a good case to discuss on a LoN podcast ;-)

Gary Burns says:

I have seen young youtubers demonstrating and recommending black salve as a facial cleanser for acne and oily skin. I tried to warn one of them, but was ridiculed as a gullible fool. I am very concerned that these beautiful young people are in danger of disfigurement and ruined lives.

Fartoholic says:

We should make all those naturopaths put this on their noses like that poor woman. They might even do it. Wouldn't want to lose face, you know?

disastergirl888 says:

What would happen if you ate some?

disastergirl888 says:

1:57 I'm not squeamish at all but I'm massively trypophobic so I'm continuing on with some trepidation…

Sidewinder Fang says:

I think I'm just going to start using alternative medicine and quack medicine interchangably.

propyne says:

I mean, if it burns through the cancer it technically treats it. Then again, so does a bullet.

Jenny Tokumei says:

Years ago, I was dealing with a guy who was using black salve on himself. He ended up dying as a result of using the stuff.

Alexander K (QuantumNerd) says:

In medical school I did a rotation with a general surgeon that would regularly advise his patients to get this stuff. He would have them use it for warts, moles, or any other sort of cosmetic skin lesion. It was not until later that I found out more about this stuff and how dangerous it could be.

depenthene says:

Have a problem with your car, take it to professional people because you don't want to mess it up. Have a problem with your body, just apply first thing is said to help. Don't even bother to look up any problems with that said solution. It is just your body, not like your car, which is irreplaceable.

Really enjoyed this video! :D
