I was originally going to go with the Lenovo Z70 but have read some pretty disheartening things about their customer support and hardware. Im a graphic design student looking for a laptop with great specs, specifically i7, 16GB Ram. Do I TRULY need 16GB Ram? Or not? Ill be using mainly Photoshop and Illustrator.
I liked the lenovo specs for the price, but Im wondering whether I should let the reviews throw me off. I guess the screen size isnt a huge issue because I plan on buying a monitor. Have HP and Dell gotten better over the years? Thanks in advance.

i was shocked when I saw the G50, I am using that laptop, do not buy it, in fact I would stay away from lenovo completely. Very poor quality control, this laptop is falling apart, i had similar problems with a previous lenovo laptop. I have learned my lesson of not just looking at what may seem like good value.

I just got this laptop yesterday and had to return my HP envy laptop because the display was so bad so I got this laptop that has a 4k ULTRA HD display and ITS AMAZING. So beautiful. I got it mainly for photoshop and giffing, my budget was $950 so it was hard….Just had to make sure i made the right decision lol…..I went from my ASUS to this one and so far good!
Keyboard is small but thats probably because im used to the big ASUS keyboards lol. But seriously the screen! Those 4,000 pixels are just gorgeous! It did bottom out once when i was watching youtube and downloading like 800 things but to be fair I was installing and downloading a lot….lol. And i had no idea RAM storage was so important! I have no clue what mine has….shit lol

Blake, what do you think of the Microsoft Surface pro series? particularly the 3? I'm going to become a graphic design student soon and I am looking for something portable.
I'm an artist that likes to make comics.
Typically my method for creating comics has been to draw my pictures on paper, scan them to my laptop computer where I use Manga Studio to place my pictures in frames and build word bubbles. Then I save as a jpeg and open the file in Adobe Fireworks where I clean my line art and add color and any other additional effects I might want.
But now that my laptop is giving me trouble, I'm considering getting a new touch screen laptop or even a tablet with a stylus pen so that I can maybe skip the step where I scan my work and simply draw directly onto the computer.
Do you have any recommendations?

I am having an issue with not having a laptop especially at a critical point of my schooling and start of a career. I have been looking at laptops at $650 as my max price. My situation is that I circumstances are leaving me without a laptop and I really need one to do web design and development/programming for college and clients. Currently I am using my school resources but it is limiting me in my schedule in doing design and development outside of school and work. Is taking a refinancing the best option for this situation or should I just be limited in using what I can have access to at my school while saving cash for a few weeks to get a laptop purchase at full price?
