The video gives research evidence on the reasons Common Core mathematics is needed in the US. It addresses the tasks and questions used in mathematics classrooms, mindset, problem solving, and advancement and tracking.

This woman is lying. I have a junior and senior in high school and they are both failing common core math. They both scored well in math before common core.
FUCK THIS BULLSHIT I AM TIRED OF MY GENERATION BEING FUCKED UP BY "GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS " WHO HAVE NO GOOD REASON TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE EDUCATION SYSTEM COMMON CORE IS PROOF THAT THEY DON'T GIVE A SINGLE FUCK
Why do we know the model to be faulty? What evidence do you have for this? This nation's math literacy compared to other countries has tanked substantially since the previous method was redacted from curriculum. There is no evidence in reality for the claim the the old system was broken.
So then this person is on the payroll. Eventually it will come out that this common core garbage is being driven by some company making a lot of money.
Kids in America don't need Common Core. They need their old curriculum and they need discipline and they need to want to learn. There is a lack of motivation in this nation because we have a bunch of Justin Beiber's and Miley Cyrus wanna be's as our nation's youth. They all can't be performers and it's time to wake your kids up to the offenses happening against the citizens and their children. We are not allowed to discipline our children but the schools and police can conduct themselves in pure deception against them, and they do. On the news, a school in Indiana or Illinois, was found to have separated the boys from the girls in separate room and had the children take off their pants to check their bottom halves of their bodies without the parents permission. A school in Manhattan was found to force children to wear a pressure cuff while being asked over 600 questions. This was also done without the parents permission. The cuffs left bruises on the kids arms and this is how the parents found out.
Fuck you lady. Take your “Common Core” math and stick it. We don’t "need to change anything". Our traditional math (how I was taught) works and should not be changed.
Several colleagues have denounced Professor Boaler and her claims, which are contradicted by her own data. It's publicly available if you'd like to read it, but it's a waste of a half-hour, math scores are falling under Common Core (NAEP 2013-2015).
i don't know a whole lot about common core math, nor am i an educator, but i do find some things in the responses to common core math. those in support of common core math seem to be much more open minded and thoughtful in their responses. those most opposed to common core maths come across as closed minded to willfully ignorant at best and mentally unstable at worst. i have a hard time taking anyone seriously when they attack common core as a conspiracy to intentionally dumb down children and bring about communism. i find those working with their thinking caps on to be more trustworthy than those wearing tin foil hats.
Please look up "THE DELIBERATE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA," a freely available book by Charlotte Iserbyt (she used to work for the Department of Education).
Long story short, corporate interests are stupefying the masses by lowering standards and tweaking the curriculum constantly (i.e. math doesn't change, but the methods always are).
I agree with the principle behind the idea of common core mathematics. But don't think it's being implemented well.
A lot of the the methods I see in the videos talking about common core are great. They're perfect, they're exactly how I wish math would be taught. BUT, when I see the actual problems being taught in school and their solutions, they seem convoluted, often adding more confusion to a simple arithmetic problem like 23-3.
These stats are so skewed. The lack of money in public education and hiring bad teachers [good ones leave or find better jobs] leads to bad education. Tied pay increases and performance to student improvement/grades. Kids using common core hate it… will we be using something new? Or go back to Base 10?
Well, I guess the world should just put the cue in the rack and wait for the end because 2 + 2 = Feelings. It's gobbledygook. A decade from now, when Michael Bay's asteroid is on a collision course with Earth, common core neo-math nerds won't solve the problem fast enough for President Morgan Freeman (I'm keenly aware I've cross referenced competing late 90's disaster films) to train a rag-tag crew of everymen to impregnate said asteroid with a nuclear payload. Although, thanks to Obama's socialist obsessions on foreign policy in the middle east President Freeman would probably need to negotiate with Iran for the payload. I hope Chuck Norris is still alive when that day comes…the asteroid would politely excuse itself and be on it's way.
Common core math(s) when taught by teachers who need scripts, lock step activities, and curricula spoon fed to them WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL. When it is taught by creative teachers who know when each student is ready for the next challenge can work. The system of standardized testing precludes individual pacing of creative thinking about abstract concepts. In the four different states where I taught, most of my colleagues were the former kind. I graduated high school in 77, still clueless about what squared and cubed really mean.

Really difficult
Hi common core is really complex
Quick comment: Asians do this. Asians are the best in maths. Better learn the Asian's mind of doing maths.

Stanford University just lost all credibility

Don't believe me? Read into it! It's FREE!

Per the cdescription; Where is the research evidence? This is just this lady giving her opinions.

This woman needs to take a reality check…she wants communism she should leave this country.
