I agree with you 100%. I didn't do much IT at school and I've never been on any Graphic design or Web design courses.
I started in web design because I wanted to create an android app, I tried to learn Java to do this, but at the time it was too difficult so I decided to start off with the basics, HTML & CSS.
YouTube has been the number 1 source of everything I've learned over the last few years. I learnt more in 3 months than I did in 15 years of school and colledge.
I have also used Lynda.com, TeamTreeHouse, Codecademy and many other similar websites.
I use a lot of the Adobe software, Dreamweaver, Brackets, Edge Code, Flash, Fireworks, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Edge animate and more.
I think the Adobe CC suite is the best thing any web designer can have, but there are free alternatives to most of them.
Great post! I completely agree on starting with Adobe's suite. That is something most Web and Mobile designers forego and it can hurt. Great points on education sources. Stay Hungry folks :)
Thanks for your time…Your information is very helpful. I'm fairly new at the web but would love to become a student of yours. I am in the process of developing my own site for urban fiction. I don't have a lot of money but I really do have the desire to learn.
Thanks Mike, really helpful!!
You're awesome man! You inspired me so much! Really appreciate you
